Gift Mazes
Everyone loves money, movies, games and CDs. Everyone loves puzzles. Thankfully Money Maze and Movie Maze are brilliantly annoying gizmos that combine all of the above, as recipients must solve them in order to access whatever pressie you put inside. Aargh!
Looking a bit like transparent Borg starships (or, if you're not a complete geek, see-through cubes), these infuriatingly addictive puzzles are guaranteed to send friends and relatives loopy with frustration.
First up there's Money Maze. As its name suggests this vexing little cube is ideal for imprisoning money, but you can also use it to trap tickets, gift vouchers or any other paper-based pressie. For those of you who prefer giving something a little more substantial, there's Movie Maze - perfect for impounding DVDs, video games and CDs. You might even be able to squeeze a book in there.
We're not telling you how to solve these knuckle-gnawing brain-teasers (yes, of course we've cracked 'em) but both involve manoeuvering a little steel ball through a labyrinthine maze. And if you think that sounds easy, think again.
We've seen grown men (ok, us) reduced to tears trying to open one of these deceptively devious blocks. And there was only a quid inside. Oh yes, did we mention you can also put coins in Money Maze? Actually, if it fits in the slot, you can put anything you like in there (obviously the Movie Maze is more capacious). As long as the recipient covets it, it's funny.
Flummoxed owners might be tempted to take the direct approach and smash their maze to smithereens with a heavy object. But then they'd be unable to use it again. And that would be a shame because as well as being a brilliant way to give money, games, movies and more, both mazes are hideously compelling puzzles. The root of all evil?
